For viewing the sun a "White Light" filter can be made of either Mylar or glass. Solar
filters of this type allow you to view sunspots, granulation of the surface and solar events like eclipses.
H-ALPHA FILTERS
One of the most interesting ways to view the Sun is through a Hydrogen-Alpha (H-Alpha) Solar Prominence Filter. A H-Alpha filter set brings out Solar features like faculae, filaments,
flares, prominences, spiculae, and other phenomena. The filter usually has a tuning bandpass of frequencies between around 1.5 angstroms wide. The narrower the bandpass, the more Hydrogen-Alpha details that can be seen.
