| When viewing the sun with your telescope, you
must always use a proper solar filter. Two basic filtering systems
available: White Light filters and Hydrogen-Alpha filters (sometimes
called Solar Prominence filters).
White Light Filters
 |
White Light filters, which come in Mylar or
glass, reject almost all the light across the entire spectrum
of light. These filters are good for viewing sun spots, surface
granulation and solar events like eclipses and planet transits.

Hydrogen-Alpha Filters
 |
A Hydrogen-Alpha (H-Alpha) Filters
are necessary for viewing solar prominences and features in
the chromosphere. |
